There’s an advert going around on social media with Richie Mccaw, for those who don’t know, Richie is an All black rugby player, amazing player, athlete and role model. Don’t worry, this isn’t a blog about Rugby, (don’t mention England rugby to me please....)

Anyway, each day, and before every game, without fail he writes 2 words, every time.

Start Again.

What does that mean? I hear you ask.

It’s about not resting on your past successes or failures. It’s about not taking anything from granted. It’s wiping the slate clean.

For Richie, it means going out and playing the best game of rugby he can. Not resting on past successes, or being complacent. It keeps him humble and hungry.

For me, it’s gives you the choice. it’s having the ability  to decide how you want the day to go. Too many times, we replay un helpful memories over and over again, or events that have happened in the past. More often than not, we have exaggerated the memories, and are worrying needlessly.

Start Again, gives us the chance to move forward with the right intentions, not letting the past impact the present.

What’s this got to do with fitness, and health I hear you ask?

Good point. You see, Start Again, isn’t just for sport. You can use the same 2 words and apply it to your weight loss, fitness, and body goals really easily.

Let me explain.

It’s not too late.

There was a client of mine I helped last year, she lost 2 stone over 6 months. When we were chatting after her final weight in, she gave me a little insight into her mindset before she starting working with me.

She was saying, when she was overweight, she wouldn’t think twice about eating junk food, as she was already overweight, what’s one more biscuit going to do? Trouble is, this would go on for days, weeks, months, even years for her. She was living in the past, and making the decision to live the same today and yesterday.

A big part of her success, was using the Start Again method. Each day, telling herself, you’re only as good as your last day, start again, build the momentum and keep progressing.

The Kick Start.

Sometimes, we just need a kick start. I see it all the time, with people coasting. There doing OK, but playing at it to be honest. They train a bit, but not enough to make a difference, or they eat well during the week, but then go crazy at the weekend.

They know it’s not right, and it get’s frustrating not getting any decent results. Having a kick start can be the answer.

Just by saying, right, from now, I’m going to focus and get the results that I actually want. Each day, I’m going to start again. I’m going to eat well, train hard, and stay focused. Consistently.

It’s the daily reminder that puts your in the right frame of mind, which leads to good choices, more energy, and over time, a new you!

Try applying the Start Again process in your life and see the difference it can make.
